The Yoga Shala · Maitland, Florida

A yoga studio where real bodies are met with real care.

The Yoga Shala is a welcoming yoga and movement studio located in Maitland, Florida, just minutes from Winter Park and Orlando. Rooted in authentic Ashtanga tradition and shaped by a modern understanding of how bodies learn and adapt, the studio was created to make meaningful practice more accessible—especially for people who feel curious but intimidated.

Whether you want to build a consistent yoga practice, retrain how your body moves, become stronger, or reconnect with yourself after pain or injury, every path begins with careful attention to the person in front of us.

Our teaching philosophy

Yoga should feel supportive, not overwhelming.

We believe the posture is never more important than the person practicing it. Our studio is warm, lighthearted, and free from pressure or comparison, so you can learn with curiosity and build a practice that is sustainable for your body and your life.

Three things you will not find together anywhere else.

The Yoga Shala brings together authentic lineage, decades of individualized teaching, and an original movement methodology born from lived experience.

01

Central Florida’s only Mysore program

Learn traditional Ashtanga one-on-one within the energy of a shared practice room. Beginners and experienced students practice side by side while each person receives instruction appropriate to their own body, experience, and pace.

02

Central Florida’s only Level II Authorized teacher

Founder Krista Shirley brings more than two decades of study in Mysore, India, along with the depth of experience required to translate the tradition thoughtfully for real people and real bodies.

03

The proprietary Body Mechanics Method

An original movement system created by Krista through her own recovery from severe nerve damage—and the only program of its kind.

Two approaches · One philosophy

Rooted in tradition. Transformed through lived experience.

Ashtanga Yoga and Body Mechanics are distinct practices, but both are taught with careful observation and respect for the person.

Authentic Mysore-style Ashtanga

A traditional practice shaped around the individual.

Ashtanga Yoga integrates posture, breath, concentration, and meditation into a complete system of practice. In the Mysore method, students are taught one-on-one within a shared room rather than being asked to keep up with a group.

This makes the practice more personal, sustainable, and responsive to the student’s structure, history, injuries, goals, and stage of life. Over time, students become more independent and better able to recognize what their own body needs each day.

Krista Shirley’s Body Mechanics Method

Retrain how your brain and body create movement.

Body Mechanics is Krista Shirley’s proprietary movement method, created through her own recovery from severe nerve damage. Using slow, precise movement, breath, sensory awareness, and principles of neuroplasticity, it helps rebuild coordination, trust, and functional strength without forcing the body.

Rather than isolating one muscle or chasing a particular shape, Body Mechanics teaches the brain, breath, joints, and muscles to work together as a more coordinated whole.
