The Yoga Shala teaches Ashtanga yoga in the Mysore style. This unique program is suitable for beginners as well as longtime practitioners because every student is taught individually. In other words, each student is taught in a one-on-one fashion, within the classroom setting, so that he or she can progress through the Ashtanga Yoga series at their own pace, and according to their individual needs. For these reasons, it is arguably the most effective and enjoyable way to properly learn yoga.
The Ashtanga method of yoga involves synchronizing the breath with a progressive series of postures—a process that helps to detoxify the muscles and organs. The result is improved circulation, a light and strong body, and a calm mind. Ashtanga Yoga practice promotes weight loss, vitality, mental clarity, stress reduction, deep relaxation, and overall health and wellness to the practitioner. When you practice this yoga style consistently you will lose weight and gain strength, balance, endurance, flexibility, concentration and so much more.
The Mysore style is ideal for people who seek to create and maintain a daily yoga practice; something they can nurture and grow over time.
This class is an introduction to the practice of Ashtanga yoga, focused on introducing the fundamentals of breathing, sun salutations and the standing and seated postures that make up the primary series. You’ll challenge yourself as you work at your own pace in a safe and supportive environment. Modifications will be offered as you practice each pose. Get ready to fall in love with yoga! All levels and beginner friendly. Beginners Yoga is ideal for people who have never done yoga before, students who want to begin an Ashtanga Yoga practice, people dealing with chronic pain or want to improve their mobility.
The Ashtanga Yoga Primary Series is a set sequence of poses (asanas) that forms the foundation of Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga. The Primary Series practice consists of a specific order of postures that are linked together with vinyasas (breath with movement). The primary series is also known as Yoga Chikitsa, which means “yoga therapy,” as it is designed to detoxify and purify the body, mind, and spirit. The primary series is a dynamic practice that helps practitioners build strength, flexibility, and endurance. Each posture is designed to prepare the body for the next, creating a flowing and continuous practice. Open to all levels.
This dynamic, full-body class blends yoga, functional movement, rehabilitation principles, calisthenics, and mat Pilates to build strength, mobility, balance, and coordination. But it goes deeper than just movement—it’s about reconnecting with your body on every level.
In each session, Krista provides personalized instruction tailored to your unique structure, goals, and movement patterns. Whether you're here to increase your physical performance, recover from injury, or simply feel better in your body, you’ll get expert guidance that meets you where you are.
We emphasize precision, breath, and slow, intentional movement to rebuild the brain-body connection. Through small, deliberate actions, you’ll improve proprioception—your brain’s map of where your body is in space—and interoception—your internal sense of what’s happening inside. When these systems are disrupted by injury, stress, or disuse, movement can feel off, disconnected, or unsafe. Body Mechanics helps restore both, creating a new baseline of strength, control, and sensory awareness.
Who is this class for?
Body Mechanics is for anyone seeking a smarter way to move. It’s ideal for those wanting to improve flexibility, balance, and functional strength, as well as individuals recovering from chronic musculoskeletal or neurological issues. Whether you’re an athlete, desk worker, or simply someone wanting to move and feel better, this class will challenge and support you.
Discover practical, empowering tools you can start using today to reconnect with your body and feel better from the inside out.
Take time to slow down and immerse yourself in a meditative experience where you are “bathed” in sound waves, frequencies and tones designed to activate your parasympathetic nervous system. Using the soothing vibrations of crystal singing bowls, tuning forks, and other instruments we provide an unique and powerful way to experience the benefits of sound healing promoting deep relaxation for both physical and spiritual well-being. Perfect for anyone looking to unwind, reset, and experience a profound sense of peace. No prior experience needed—just come, relax, and let the sound guide you to tranquility.

Neil Valle has been practicing yoga asana (postures) for over 8 years and meditation for 10 years. When he’s not working as a pediatric speech-language pathologist at his private practice helping children and young adults communicate to their fullest potential or spending time with his family and two French bulldogs, you’ll find him on the mat or meditating.
While yoga asana is an important part of the practice, Neil’s yoga mediation and devotion practice learned from his Guru, Paramahansa Yogananada, are the cornerstones of his spiritual practice.
Aside from family and yoga, Neil loves spending time outdoors hiking in the mountains, kayaking in the local lakes and waterways, and visiting all the natural wonders across the country.
Neil came to yoga as a result of a combination of interest and necessity. After being diagnosed with degenerative disk disease, a yoga teacher relative suggested Ashtanga Yoga, and from the first time he tired out an ashtanga video online, he was hooked. As he continued to practice regularly, he experienced reduced pain, reduced stiffness and numbness, and increased flexibility, strength, mental ease and overall vitality. Neil continues to practice ashtanga yoga regularly as a home practice and with guidance from his teacher Krista Shirley at the Yoga Shala. In 2020 Neil participated in Miami Life Center’s 200hr Ashtanga Practitioner’s Intensive with Kino MacGregor and Tim Feldman. He enjoys practicing a variety of asana styles, like vinyasa and yin yoga. In April 2024, Neil graduated from Yoga University’s 290hr Power Alignment Yoga Teacher Training with specialty certifications in Yin Yoga and Yoga Nidra. He enjoys working with a wide range of students, with a focus on elements of alignment, accessibility, mobility, breathwork, meditation, and even yogic philosophy.

Gabriella Armor was introduced to yoga in an undergraduate yoga course in 2013 but truly developed a consistent practice and understanding of yoga when she began Ashtanga at the Yoga Shala in 2019. She underwent teacher training shortly after joining the Shala and has been teaching since.
As a Doctor of Physical Therapy, Gabriella has a passion for guiding individuals to understand their own anatomy and cultivate awareness of one’s self from physical to emotional and spiritual depths.

In 1990 Laura started her practice of Hatha yoga beginning with the Iyengar tradition, moving to a fluid Vinyasa style and finally landing into her favorite style, Ashtanga Yoga. She is versed in the study of Kriyas and gained her Yoga Alliance certification from her studies in Kundalini Yoga at the Kundalini Yoga Center in Altamonte Springs, FL.
Her current endeavors deal more with energetic, physical and emotional repatterning techniques for transformation and lasting wellness and is working toward her certification in Biosonic Sound Healing with Dr. John Beaulieu, ND, PhD.
“My purpose as a teacher is to help students find a path that is right for them. Helping them find a practice that will enhance their lives.” Laura is also visual artist and graphic designer and has taught different aspects of Graphic Design and Visual Communication at Full Sail University for over 16 years.

Robin Robertson’s path as a teacher is rooted in both strength and stillness. With more than two decades in martial arts — holding multiple black belt ranks — she weaves the discipline, focus, and perseverance of martial training into the mindfulness and balance of yoga.
Her yoga teacher journey began in Mysore, India, and later deepened at The Yoga Shala, where she completed the 200-hour Yoga Apprenticeship in 2017 under the guidance of Krista Shirley. She also holds a 22-hour Yin Yoga certification, continuing to explore the balance between strength and surrender in her own practice.
Robin’s teaching style blends the power of martial arts with the softness of yoga, creating classes that are both grounding and empowering. She believes yoga is less about perfect postures and more about cultivating resilience, inner peace, and harmony — both on and off the mat.

A dedicated Yoga practitioner with 18 years of experience.
My journey with Yoga began through the traditional Ashtanga Vinyasa method, of which I’m grateful to Krista Shirley for sharing her years of experience and knowledge with me. What started as a physical practice has evolved into a lifelong path of inner transformation. Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of studying with teachers whose wisdom continues to shape my path—most notably Richard Freeman and, most significantly, Gregor Maehle and Monica Gauci. Their guidance has deeply influenced both my personal practice and the way I share yoga with others.
To me, yoga is not about achieving perfect poses—it’s a profound and practical system for awakening to our true nature. It’s a return to wholeness. Yoga is a mirror. Through sincere practice, it reflects our true nature.
As a teacher, my role is to share the knowledge and tools that have been passed down to me—through my teachers and the wisdom of the Yoga Shastras. I believe the true power of yoga lies not just in the precision of asana, but in cultivating awareness, devotion, and clear intention. This allows each of us to become a vessel for the Divine to express itself uniquely through our lives—and to recognize how that expression can impact our planet and all beings.
Whether you're just beginning or looking to deepen your practice, I offer a space for steady exploration—rooted in tradition, yet responsive to the unique needs of each student.

"The Yoga Shala is one of the best things that ever happened to me. When I started, I had no idea that I would fall in love with this practice. It has been the best thing, not only for my body, but for my mind. It humbles me, it inspires me, and it motivates me. Of course, it could never do all of these things without an AMAZING staff--they are some of the most encouraging, patient, and truly kind people I have ever had the pleasure to meet. I talk about The Yoga Shala so much that my daughter asks, "how much are they paying you for your constant "ads" lol. Well, the payment isn't monetary--the payment is just being able to be present in this space...growing both physically and mentally."

"I am new to Ashtanga, and I so appreciate how wonderful and welcoming this studio is to their new students! I have felt so much care and guidance in my short time there. I'm excited to continue challenging my body and mind and to continue learning."

"When I started exploring different studios around Central Florida, I often felt like an outsider. The teachers wouldn't have much to say to me during or after class and there were many social clicks within different studios. I came across Laruga's instagram account. I knew nothing about Ashtanga yoga but admired the spiritual integrity she had with her practice. I wanted this experience and found it within The Yoga Shala. There are no social barriers based on race, class, or gender at The Yoga Shala. Because of the presence of this studio in the Central Florida community I have an ashtanga practice to take with me around the world."

"You may find so many great Yoga studios all around but at The Yoga Shala, Mysore style is followed and this is what makes it a one-of-a-kind experience. If what you are looking for is to build a strong and consistent yoga practice, instructors here can really help you do it. The place itself will make you feel at home and connected. Very recommended."

"I love it when instructors patiently coach and help me to improve my poses step by step! I also appreciate the friendly and positive environment of the Yoga Shala."

"Krista Shirley and her staff at The Yoga Shala are by far the best around. Their studio is great! The knowledge you will get and the confidence you will gain is priceless. I am a new student at their studio, but I already feel like I am part of their community. I have learned so much about Ashtanga Yoga and about myself and I am forever grateful to this studio for all of it. Please do yourself a favor and visit The Yoga Shala, you will be glad you did."

Absolutely! We welcome all types of bodies. Yoga is a physical practice that naturally increases flexibility over time—you don’t need to be flexible when you start. Consistent practice builds a balance of strength, flexibility, endurance, and agility.
If you feel stiff or tight, it may be due to sitting at a desk, years of activity without stretching, or past injuries. Beginners often use modified postures, and as you continue, your body adapts. Even if some poses feel challenging at first, our instructors provide safe modifications so you can enjoy the full benefits of yoga and progress at your own pace.
Yoga is a safe and healing practice, but it’s important to listen to your body. You don’t need to push yourself to the point of pain or injury. Our instructors can provide special adjustments and modifications for injuries, chronic pain, or limitations.
Many students find yoga helps relieve chronic pain, improve mobility, and promote overall wellness. Our Body Mechanics & Functional Mobility classes are especially helpful for students with pre-existing conditions, helping you move safely and gain long-term strength and balance.
