How do Virtual Classes work?

We offer virtual Mysore  yoga classes to individuals and groups all around the world. Using Zoom or Google Meet, we provide individualized instruction to every virtual student and tailor our live stream classes to you. To register for any virtual classes, click here.

Do I need to pre-register for classes?

We encourage students pre-register for class to ensure their spot. However, you are also welcome to show up and register before class begins.  To reserve your spot for all classes, click here

Is There Parking?

There is parking on site and on the street on circle drive.  We also have access to a large parking lot 30 seconds walk from The Yoga Shala on Circle Drive.

I'm Not Flexible, Can I Still Practice Yoga?

We welcome all type of bodies at our yoga studio in Maitland, FL (near Winter Park). Yoga is a physical exercise that will increase your flexibility over time. You do not need to be flexible when you start yoga - however, over time, you will see your range of flexibility increase.  The regular and consistent practice of yoga will instill a balance between strength and flexibility.

What About Pre-existing Pain & Old Injuries?

While you might feel sore or tired after doing your yoga or pilates practice or sometimes even during your practice, it is not necessary to push your body to the point of causing injury. Throughout our lives we primarily tell our body what to do. With time, yoga practice becomes an opportunity to listen to, and respect, what your body wants to tell and do with you. In the event of injury, whether related to yoga or pilates or past outside experience, our yoga instructors can recommend many special adjustments, modifications and considerations. Healing is one of the main benefits of practice you will experience over time. By creating and inviting more balance into your overall state of being, a regular yoga practitioner creates the space to allow healing into their body on multiple

How Do I Prepare For Class?
  • Bring your own mat and towel (mats can be purchased at The Yoga Shala).
  • Refrain from eating 2-3 hours before class.
  • Come to class well hydrated. We do not drink water during yoga practice. Drink plenty of water afterward.
  • Inform the instructor of any medical concern or injuries.
  • Please turn off your cell phones.
  • Personal hygiene is an integral part of practicing yoga. Please ensure that you and your gear are clean.
  • Honor and respect your limits. Acknowledge that your body and mind will feel different every day; listen to what your body tells you, and practice following your breath.
How Often Should I Practice Yoga?

Any Body Movement practice should be incorporated into your weekly routine a minimum of 3 days per week to see results.

As your schedule permits, more days should gradually be added. We receive the greatest benefit when practicing on a consistent basis.

Ubhaya Padangusthasana

I have tried several, if not every, yoga studio in the Orlando/Winter park area... This studio is by far the most unique. Krista is the best teacher I have ever had. Ashtanga yoga is different than most styles of yoga and I have found that it is now the only yoga I practice. Krista has so much knowledge and cares so much for her students to truly learn that it was extremely easy for me to stay at the Yoga Shala permanently. Could not recommend the shala enough!

– VICTORIA QUINTERO

"No matter how one begins a Yoga practice, when it starts to really work you will inquire into a deeper understanding of what is Yoga. There are very few places that set the context for a daily practice where this inner inquiry can naturally flourish. I’m very thankful to find such a sacred space in The Yoga Shala, directed by Krista Shirley, where my practice feels supported by her guidance and its community.

– REI NGHARD

"Krista Shirley and her staff at The Yoga Shala are by far the best around. Their studio is great! The knowledge you will get and the confidence you will gain is priceless. I am a new student at their studio but I already feel like I am part of their community. I have learned so much about Ashtanga Yoga and about myself and I am forever grateful to this studio for all of it. Please do yourself a favor and visit The Yoga Shala, you will be glad you did.."

– MARLILUZ RIVERA

I've been practicing yoga for about 10 years, have about 300 hours of training completed, and have practiced at studios all over the country. The Yoga Shala is a traditional studio - it's the real deal if you are looking for authentic Ashtanga Yoga.

– KATIE BOROWSKI

Heaven on Earth. You won't find a better, more calming, yoga studio. It's like a warm hug from a close friend every time you arrive. The classes are challenging enough to be exciting but you're also encouraged to take everything at your own pace. Krista is hands down my most favorite yoga teacher ever. If I could fly back to FL 3x a week to take classes from her, I totally would!! LOVE! LOVE! LOVE!
